Pope Leo has warned that a "piecemeal" third world war is already underway and threatens humanity's future. He issued this grave statement during his first international trip as the head of the Catholic Church on Thursday.
Speaking to political leaders, the Pope lamented the high number of current, bloody conflicts. He stated that these clashes are destabilizing the world.
The Pope attributed this global instability to "ambitions and choices that trample on justice and peace." This was his first major speech abroad since his election in May to lead the 1.4 billion-member Church.
