Turkey women's rights group: Istanbul Convention still legally valid

EŞİK, a Turkish women's rights organization, has issued a new statement on the Istanbul Convention. The group declared that the agreement is still legally in force. “We do not give up on our lives, our rights, or the Istanbul Convention,” the group said in its message. EŞİK vowed to continue its struggle until the convention is fully implemented. The Istanbul Convention is a human rights treaty by the Council of Europe. It targets violence against women and domestic violence. Turkey withdrew from the treaty in 2021, but activists argue the withdrawal was legally invalid.
