HSBC has named Brendan Nelson as its interim chair, concluding a seven-month global search for a successor. The bank's board selected Nelson to serve temporarily after an extensive but ultimately inconclusive candidate review.
Nelson will replace outgoing Chair Mark Tucker. The prolonged search process considered many external candidates from around the world before turning to the internal solution.
A veteran banker, Nelson has served on the HSBC board since 2015. He currently chairs the board’s risk committee. His deep familiarity with the bank made him a suitable stop-gap appointment.
The board will now restart its search for a permanent chair. Nelson will lead the company while this process continues.
