Fighting between Israeli forces and the Hezbollah group in southern Lebanon is escalating. This conflict now threatens a tentative agreement between the United States and Iran to end their broader war.
The memorandum of understanding includes a ceasefire in Lebanon. Under the deal, Iran’s long-time ally Hezbollah would be protected from Israeli strikes. In exchange, Hezbollah would stop firing at Israel.
The ongoing violence puts this fragile agreement at risk.
