Russian officials reported on July 4 that their air defenses shot down dozens of Ukrainian drones over Saint Petersburg. However, an oil terminal was hit, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that the Kronstadt naval base was also struck.
The attack marks one of the deepest drone incursions into Russian territory since the war began. While Moscow confirmed the downing of multiple drones, it did not immediately comment on Zelensky’s claim regarding the naval base.
The incident highlights Ukraine’s growing ability to strike far behind Russian lines, targeting critical infrastructure and military sites. No casualties have been reported so far.
