Hong Kong Blasts U.S. Report as "Fact-Twisting"

Hong Kong has strongly rejected a new U.S. report that accuses Beijing of undermining the city's freedoms. The government labeled the findings as "fact-twisting." The report came from the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. Released Wednesday, it claims China has broken promises to protect Hong Kong's legal autonomy and human rights. The document also mentions jailed former media executive Jimmy Lai. It cites his legal team alleging harsh jail conditions, including solitary confinement for over 23 hours a day. Hong Kong authorities dismissed these claims. They stated the report distorts facts and ignores the legal basis for maintaining national security. The city government reiterated that all its actions are lawful. It insists they are necessary to protect stability and security under the "one country, two systems" principle.
