U.S. Strikes ISIS in Syria After Palmyra Attack

The United States military has launched a new operation against ISIS in Syria. The action is a direct response to a terrorist attack on joint Syrian-American forces near the ancient city of Palmyra one week ago. The U.S. Department of Defense, known as the Pentagon, stated the operation is called "Hawkeye." American forces carried out air strikes at dawn on Saturday. They targeted dozens of sites used by the ISIS terrorist group. Earlier, Syria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to fighting ISIS. The statement came amid ongoing tensions in the region. The U.S. strikes highlight continued efforts to counter the extremist organization. ISIS, also referred to as Daesh, previously controlled large areas of Syria and Iraq.
