Syria's Alawites Protest, Clash with Security After Mosque Attack

Thousands from Syria's Alawite minority protested on December 28. The demonstrations came days after a bombing at an Alawite mosque killed eight people. Clashes broke out between protesters and state security forces. These clashes killed at least four people and injured dozens more. The Alawite religious minority has faced increased targeting. This followed the fall of President Bashar al-Assad in December. Assad, the deposed leader, is a member of the Alawite community.
