A light show on the Washington Monument launched the first event for America's 250th anniversary. The display happened on New Year's Eve.
The celebration is part of President Trump's plan for nationwide events. The country will mark its semiquincentennial, or 250th birthday, in 2026.
The illuminated monument is on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. It kicked off more than two years of planned festivities.
