Türkiye Plans African Spaceport for Domestic Satellite Launches

Türkiye has announced a three-phase project to build a spaceport in Somalia. The location near the equator is strategically valuable. Rockets launched from the equator get a significant boost from the Earth's rotation. This allows them to carry heavier payloads, like satellites, into orbit more efficiently. This move aims to achieve full independence in space operations. Currently, Türkiye relies on other countries' rockets and launch sites to orbit its satellites. The planned spaceport would allow Türkiye to launch its domestically produced satellites using its own rockets. Officials state this is a key step in strengthening the nation's space capabilities.
