Hong Kong's Route 6 to Slash Travel Time, Open Fully in 2026
A major new highway in Hong Kong is set to fully open this year, the city's transport chief has announced. Route 6 will directly connect Yau Ma Tei in Kowloon with the Tseung Kwan O district. Construction on the project began in 2017. Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said the final section, a tunnel in Kowloon Bay, will be completed by year's end. This will link the road to the existing Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel. “We are striving to open the entire Route 6 within this year," Chan stated on Saturday. She added that the new route "will slash travel time" between the two areas. The full opening is expected to significantly improve cross-harbor traffic flow for drivers.
