Broadway Legend Boycotts Kennedy Center Over Trump Name

Award-winning composer Stephen Schwartz has canceled his upcoming appearance at the Kennedy Center. He is protesting the venue’s decision to rename its main theater after former U.S. President Donald Trump. Schwartz, who wrote the music for hit shows like "Wicked" and "Godspell," said he will not perform there. He explained that appearing at the venue "has now become an ideological statement." He is the latest artist to withdraw from the prestigious Washington, D.C. arts center. The building's main stage was recently renamed the "Donald J. Trump Family Theatre." This followed a $10 million donation from a conservative nonprofit group. The Kennedy Center has stated it is a non-political institution. It says the name change honors a past president, as is tradition. Several other performers have also canceled events in protest.
