Australia Has Paid $2 Billion to Russia Since Ukraine Invasion

Australians have sent over $2 billion to Russia for energy imports since its 2022 invasion of Ukraine, according to new analysis. This money enters state coffers that help fund the Russian military. The connection was highlighted on Wednesday when missiles struck two apartment blocks in Ukraine. Analysts state the Russian military, which is financed by the national budget, launched the attack. The $2 billion amount is enough to purchase approximately 80 advanced fighter jets or build 1,000 new kilometers of highway. This financial support continues because Australia, like some other nations, still imports Russian liquified natural gas (LNG). These imports are allowed under current sanctions.
