Nigeria Surpasses Key Global HIV Targets Ahead of 2030 Deadline

Nigeria has successfully achieved two of the three global HIV targets set by UNAIDS. The country is on track to meet its 2030 goals for epidemic control. The UNAIDS "95-95-95" strategy requires nations to ensure that by 2030, 95% of people with HIV know their status. The second target is that 95% of those diagnosed receive sustained treatment. The final goal is that 95% of people on treatment achieve viral suppression, meaning the virus is undetectable in their blood. According to the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Nigeria has now met the first two goals. The country continues to make progress on the third target of viral suppression. This achievement marks a major public health success for Nigeria. It demonstrates significant improvement in the country's efforts to diagnose, treat, and manage HIV.
